The Inner Monologue

Thinking Out Loud

Why Every Movement Gets Ruined by Its Own Fan Club

Let’s be real: nothing good—or even effectively evil—ever stays pure for long. The second someone starts making waves, whether they’re a saint or a supervillain, the extremism interns show up to turn it into an absolute circus.

The Good, the Bad, and the Unbearably Extra

Exhibit A: The Well-Intentioned Leader
Some poor, optimistic soul says, “Hey, maybe we should fix this broken system with reasonable, sustainable steps.” A noble thought! But before you can say “nuance,” the Moral Puritans™ arrive, shrieking:

  • “REVOLUTION NOW!”
  • “COMPROMISE IS FOR THE WEAK!”
  • “IF WE DON’T DESTROY CAPITALISM BY TUESDAY, YOU’RE A TRAITOR!”

These are the people who take a perfectly decent cause—say, climate activism—and turn it into a performative guilt-off where anyone who owns a car is basically Hitler. They don’t want progress; they want perfection, and they’ll burn down every bridge (and possibly a few Starbucks) to prove their devotion.

Exhibit B: The Competent Villain
Meanwhile, on the dark side, some calculating tyrant is running a tight ship—oppression, censorship, all the classics. Efficient, if evil. But then the Overzealous Minions™ slither in, whispering:

  • *“My liege, have we considered… *more* torture?”*
  • *“What if we also executed people’s pets? For *drama?”
  • “Actually, let’s just kill everyone. That’ll show ‘em.”

These are the folks who take a functional dictatorship and turn it into a Saw movie sequel. Because if evil is good, then maximum evil must be a promotion, right?

The Problem Isn’t the Leader—It’s the Groupies

At the end of the day, most movements (good or evil) don’t fail because of their leaders. They fail because of the fanatics who show up, hijack the message, and escalate things until the whole operation collapses under its own self-righteousness.

  • Moderates? Boring.
  • Measured progress? Cowardice.
  • Nuance? Literally oppression.

No, the real danger isn’t the person at the top—it’s the swarm of rabid followers who take everything too far. They’re the reason no revolution stays noble and no villain stays efficiently evil.

The Takeaway (If You Dare)

Next time you see a movement gaining steam—whether it’s for justice, chaos, or just a really aggressive HOA—watch the sidelines. Because the moment the ”But Have We Tried More?” crowd arrives, it’s all downhill from there.

History isn’t written by the bold. It’s derailed by the loudest.
