The Inner Monologue

Thinking Out Loud

MAGA in Name Only

Most people who call themselves MAGA are not.
They wear the label. They repeat the words. They absorb the aesthetic. But when it comes time to act, they fold.
The easiest place to see this is not at a rally or on social media. It’s at the store.
Turn the product over.
If it says Made in China, Made in Vietnam, Made in Mexico, it still goes in the cart. The price was right. The convenience was irresistible. The principles were optional.
That is not patriotism. That is comfort-seeking wrapped in tough talk.
Real belief costs something. And most MAGA don’t want to pay.
They talk endlessly about American workers, American industry, American strength—but they refuse to inconvenience themselves by supporting it. They want the factory jobs back in theory, not in practice. They want the flag without the sacrifice. The identity without the discipline.
That’s not hypocrisy by accident. That’s cowardice by choice.
Because courage is not yelling slogans or sharing memes. Courage is standing in the aisle, realizing the American-made option costs more—or doesn’t exist at all—and saying, then I go without. Courage is letting yourself feel the absence rather than outsourcing your values to someone else’s labor overseas.
Most MAGA won’t do that.
They want to believe they are fighters, but they surrender instantly to price tags and convenience. They rage about globalism while funding it. They demand loyalty to America while shopping like nothing matters beyond their own comfort.
They don’t lack information. Everyone knows where this stuff is made. They lack spine.
If you claim America must be strong, independent, and self-reliant—but you won’t tolerate slightly higher prices, fewer choices, or temporary inconvenience—then you don’t believe what you say. You are cosplaying conviction.
A real movement would be visible in purchasing patterns. In domestic supply chains surviving because people chose them. In companies able to hire American workers because customers refused foreign alternatives. That hasn’t happened at scale, because the majority of self-described MAGA talk big and act small.
They are loud because they are empty.
They are angry because they are unwilling.
They are performative because performance is cheaper than principle.
Buying foreign-made goods while shouting about American greatness is not a contradiction you “balance.” It’s a confession. It says: I want the feeling of loyalty without the burden of loyalty.
And when faced with the simplest test—buy American or go without—they choose neither. They choose the lie.
That’s MAGA in name only.
