The world cup is upon us.
When public figures attend sporting events, fans have few opportunities to express their approval or disapproval in a collective, peaceful way. One form of protest that has long been part of sports culture is the crowd chant.
For those who oppose Donald Trump and wish to register their dissent without disrupting the event or engaging in confrontation, consider a simple, coordinated chant based on the familiar tune of “Hey Mickey”:
“Hey Piggy, you’re such a swine,
You’re such a swine, it blows my mind,
Hey Piggy! Hey Piggy!”
The goal is not violence, intimidation, or interference with the event. The goal is to demonstrate public disapproval through a form of expression that is audible, unmistakable, and rooted in the tradition of crowd participation.
If you choose to participate, do so peacefully, respect the safety of those around you, and remember that the most effective protest is one that remains firmly within the bounds of free expression.
